Plant Operator

DeSilva Gates Aggregates, Northern California’s leading aggregate and asphalt production company, is seeking an Asphalt Plant Operator to join our team at the Sunol plant facility.  Specializing in high-volume mining and producing construction aggregates from our own sources, Asphalt Concrete Production at three Asphalt Plants, as well as mine planning and reclamation, we are committed to excellence and sustainability in all aspects of operation.  With state-of-the-art facilities throughout California, we pride ourselves on delivering top-quality materials to support various construction projects.

As a Plant Operator, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our asphalt facility, which requires a keen eye for detail, strong technical skills and a commitment to upholding our company’s environmental, safety and quality standards. 

Responsibilities


Sunol Asphalt Plant runs a state-of-the-art 500 TPH ASTEC plant with six, 300 ton soils.

  • Operate and maintain aggregate processing equipment including crushers, screens, conveyers and other machinery to ensure continuous, uninterrupted production.
  • Monitor production processes to ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on equipment to identify and address any issues promptly.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
  • Coordinate with maintenance and repair personnel to schedule repairs and ensure optimal equipment performance.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the plant site, including proper disposal of waste materials and adherence to environmental regulations.
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries, including the proper use of PPE.
  • Record and maintain accurate production and maintenance logs, including material inventory and equipment maintenance records.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and team members to optimize production efficiency and meet production targets.
  • Participate in training programs and stay updated in industry best practices and advancements in asphalt production technology

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as an Asphalt Plant Operator at a large, continuous mix asphalt plant.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.  Technical training or certification in equipment operation or related field preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues effectively.
  • Knowledge of asphalt processing equipment, familiarity with baghouses, drums, screens and conveyers and associated environmental and safety regulations and procedures.
  • Verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate with personnel of all levels.
  • Ability to work in team and independent settings with minimal supervision while effectively prioritizing tasks in a fast-paced, sometimes demanding environment.
  • Physical stamina and strength to perform tasks that may require lifting, climbing and working in adverse weather conditions.
  • Familiarity with APEX Loadout/ticketing system.  Proficient in computer applications, such as Microsoft Office and Excel. Ability to learn new programs quickly.
  • Valid California Driver’s License and 10-year clean driving record.
  • Ability to work days, nights, and weekends as required- Minimum 1,800 hours per year.
  • Required to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
