The $42 million project bid and was awarded to DeSilva Gates Construction in November 2016. Work was scheduled to commence early in 2017 with major work operations taking place under nine separate extended weekend runway closures, each beginning on Friday at 6pm and ending on Monday at 12pm.

The start of the airfield construction activities, originally scheduled for April 2017, was delayed due to inclement weather. To ensure swift completion, DeSilva Gates Construction re-sequenced the project schedule and performed the work in seven extended weekend runway closures rather than the original nine closures.
