As the General Contractor, DeSilva Gates Construction was responsible for all aspects of the construction and management of the geotechnical mitigations and civil improvements on the 40-acre, mixed-use redevelopment project on Treasure Island in San Francisco for developer Treasure Island Community Development (TICD).
DeSilva Gates Construction was responsible for site demolition which included waste stream segregation and stockpiling of broken concrete and asphalt concrete grindings. The asphalt concrete grindings were re-used as aggregate subbase in temporary detours on surrounding projects, while the broken concrete was stockpiled and later crushed for reuse on the site. Additionally, existing concrete buildings were demolished, crushed and stockpiled. DeSilva Gates Construction repurposed more than 30,000 CY of crushed concrete as surcharge mass that was generated from the prior demolition phase to supplement the existing on-island soil stockpiles, increasing surcharge heights and speeding up the surcharge settlement periods.
This project has been recognized as a Platinum LEED Neighborhood Development Certified Plan.
